Trust . Join . Grow . Serve . Reach

missions

Everything we do is bound up in our effort to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Southern Baptists embrace three different ways of accomplishing this task. First, we commit to praying for missionaries both at home and abroad. Second, we commit to giving to support missionaries in our state, nation and world through the Cooperative Program and various other missions offerings. Third, we commit to going to the mission field itself, either short-term or long-term, in order to provide personal support and assistance. Whether through our prayers, our dollars or our hands and feet, we embrace the missionary call at local, state, national and international levels.

Here at First Baptist Church, we offer our children two excellent avenues to explore the world of missions. Our boys participate in Royal Ambassadors—RA's, while our girls participate in Girls in Action—GA's. Each club engages children in various missions activities, such as nursing home visitation, volunteer projects, and writing letters of encouragement to missionaries. Rewards are earned for accomplishments in missions work and in Bible memorization. Children learn to honor the role of a missionary.

YOUTH

Our students are encouraged to participate in missions through a wide variety of local, national and international opportunities. In some cases, we help needy people in our area with simple chores around their house. We have also traveled to the Alabama coast to serve in Children's Homes and in prison ministries. Some of our youth have traveled internationally, serving in a very different culture, even in third world environments. Our desire is to teach our students that we are all missionaries wherever we go.

Our adults are extremely active in "hands on" missions work. Some have participated in Construction Missions, typically framing up a small church in another state. Others have been active with Medical and Dental Missions in Honduras. Still others answered God's call to serve in Haiti, helping children in orphanages and sharing God's love in one of the poorest communities on the planet. As we encourage personal involvement, we also believe in sacrificially giving to support our full time missionaries on the field.

senior ADULTS

Our Senior Adults are not only personally involved in missions work, but also very active in the support of missions both in America and around the world. The men of our church meet monthly for Brotherhood Dinners in which some worthy ministry or cause is discussed. We also assist those who have become disabled in the provision of entry ramps for their homes. Our ladies are active in numerous Woman's Missionary Union groups. They promote offerings, pray, and participate in worthy missions projects.
